The God of the Hills and Valleys—is LORD Over All

How often do we go through something new and challenging, and forget that God—who was with us to help us through before on the hill—is still with us now in the valley?

The Bible reminds us, in 1 Kings 20, that God is indeed God of both the hills and the valleys. And in fact, not just the hills and valleys—but He is LORD over all! In chapter 20, we read the story of when the Syrians came out to fight against Israel. Israel, who was not expected to win with so small an army, actually defeated the great Syrian army—because the Lord had given the Syrians into Israel’s hands. However, the king of Syria, in his pride and lack of knowledge of who God is, reasoned that it was because Israel’s god was god of the hills, and that was how Israel had defeated them. So, he told the king of Israel to prepare to go to battle with Syria again; having convinced himself that if they battled Israel in the valley this time, that they would surely defeat Israel.

So, Israel and Syria went to battle against one another a second time. This time, in the valley. Then, a man of God came to speak a word to the king of Israel. He said to the king, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because the Syrians have said,’ ‘The LORD is god of the hills but he is not god of the valleys,’ ‘therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD’” (1 Kings 20:28). As you could have probably guessed, once again, Israel defeated the Syrians.

Are you in the valley right now? If so, remember, that the LORD who fought for you on the hill, is now fighting for you in the valley. He was LORD then—sovereign over every detail of your circumstances, concerned for your every need, in-tune with your pain, there calming your anxieties and fears with His perfect love—and He is still LORD now. God has not abandoned you in this new season that is needing a different tactical approach, and new strength; causing new levels of faith to rise up within you. He has gone before you, and is preparing your victory! What you have prayed for, according to His will, He is going to give into your hands! 🙌🏻
